Maurice Shehata branch in Dubai?
Hello all,
I just moved from the UK to Abu Dhabi and was thinking I would take the opportunity to upgrade my beginner oud (i could not take it with me) and take
lessons. And I just saw on Maurice's website that they opened a new branch in Dubai.
Anybody knows the place? Is it a shop selling ouds built by Maurice? Is it a workshop?... Is it worth the trip and visit? I have always heard good
things about his ouds and have been curious about them for a long time.
Thank you for your input.

Do you know where it is located? I can go and have a look.
The only two shops I know of that sell ouds in Dubai are The Music Chamber (located at the crown plazza building) who mainly sells Syrian ouds. The
other is Sadiq Music which is located in several malls (Ibn Batuta is one). They sell Bahraini, Kuwait (Salmeen), and sometimes Iraqi ouds.
I go to Egypt once every two months on business. If there is a partucular oud that you want in Egypt and you know where it is sold, I can buy it for
you if you like. Please keep in mind that I am a total beginner though!

Thank you very much for your help and information, joklany. And don't worry about being a beginner: I am one too, and at this stage, I am just
wondering if the shop is worth the trip: does this shop really sell ouds built by Maurice?
I tried to go on Maurice's website again on this computer with AVAST! antivirus (a different computer from the one I used the other day), but it
refuses to open the website, telling me it is infected by a Trojan Horse virus!
So, sorry, I can't remember the details. It was in North East Dubai, in (or near) the Al Sharq area, if I remember correctly, and opposite a hotel I
can't remember the name of.
The complete coordinates are on his website, but I cannot recommend anyone to visit it anymore, really, considering the Trojan alert I have every time
I try to visit it myself...
It does not really help much, does it?

The shop in Qatar is mentionned on his website too. The Dubai shop seems to be new.
There is actually a picture of it, with ouds hanging on the wall, Derbukas on the floor and a desk in a corner.
I guess I will have to explore.

Hi Pascal
I really don't know where is the Al Sharq area. I will leave it to you to explore.
I was at the Sadiq music shop today in Ibn Batuta Mall. They actually have some nice ouds. They have one ebony oud made by Jauhara Salmeen, Kuwait.
They were asking 3800AED for it!
