Thanks alot, do you have tips for singers? I really need to learn to use my voice better it sounds awkward to me. The oud is Ali Khalifa built in 77, before his sons took over.

Edward sorry to dissapoint you, theoretically the entire song is bayat, but I like slurring and sliding the notes, and I did in this song do it the iraqi way - there is a slight sharpening of the F note, as an ornamentation not part of the scale (I play in bayat on D) so maybe you could say yes, I don't know if I would. The iraqis use a similar ornamentation on Bb (the note ajam), which I also did in the taqsim before the song. Could you give an audio example of this masri sazkar?

I know this is an old string. I heard "Ala Shawati Dijla" again recently, performed by the composer's grandson/great-nephew. I thought there might be a score of the song in the Iraqi folks songs book I posted about in the "CD & Book Reviews" forum. It is actually the first song in the book. I don't know how accurate this score is; I haven't been that impressed with the other scores in the book.

Here is Salima Murad's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XFvNKiUpHc

Enjoy!
