I just want to start playing oud, and i am wondering what you guys here think about this one? Isn't it quite expensive?
It would be great if you could tell me where i could get a good (turkish) oud in somwhere near germany!
Thanks

Hi Fungus
Welcome to the forums!!
Looks like there is another german oudplayer growing
If the oud is like the seller discribed it the price is ok. But, do you really want a oud with this ugly 4-band-eq-stuff on top?Do you need to
amplifie it?
To get a GOOD turkish oud you dont have to leave germany, but the price will be much higher than the one from sazonlineshop.
If you really want to become an oudie you should not buy online.
You have to test before you buy!!!! How is the action, the sound, the feeling if you hold "her" and so on.
My experience with the first oud I bought (cheap (80€)tourist-oud from turkey) was horrible.Bad sound,no way to tune it .......NO FUN!!
So after a few trys it ended up as a decoration on the wall and never be touched again.
In spring 2008 i went to Istanbul for holliday. When I was at the great Bazar I tried some of the ouds they sell there and it was close to buy a
little-less-rubbish-style-one again.Fortunately my wife stopped me and gave the permission to spend a bit more.
So I spend a hole day in musicstores and found my new "baby" for about 400€ incl.case ,strings+plecs.
There were other ones for 600 to 1200 € which do not feel this good to me. and really wonderful ones far out of my budged
So, take your time and TEST BEFORE BUY.
There is CEM musicstore in Mannheim, they have ouds from 150 € on. They dont look to bad on ebay. If its not to far from where you`re located try
them out.
Or better, make a nice few-day trip to Istanbul and get one there.
Btw-where in germany do you life?
Good luck with finding your personal beauty for a reasonable price.
All the best
Marcus

Hey Marcus
thanks allot for the fast answer. actually i am not german but swiss i live in
basel so just at the border.
I know the 4-band-eq is kind of strange... and i really want to try my oud before buying it! I play bass and guitar for quite some time and always try
new instruments before buying.
Mannheims is not too far away, that could be a good thing. If i find some time i'll visit it!
Today i m going to visit a small turkish music store here in basel, they have somes saz and sometimes even turkish ouds. i'll take a look and let you
know

Hi fungus. If you want some advice, you could try contacting Matthias Wagner who's on this forum. He lives in Badenweiler, though I think he's more of
a specialist in Arabic ouds than turkish.

Hello Fungus,
yes I'm not far away from Basel, about 45 Km = about 45 minutes by car. So you are invited to visit me. Please call me under ++49 7632 - 82 86 95
Actually I have 3 ready instruments here by my own. Until the end of july 2 more iraqi models will be finished. A 7-course Munir Bashir model, which
is an order and a 6-course instrument of the same model with a curly maple body.
The already finished models are also a 6-course Munir Bashir model with a rosewood body, a syrian model and big Mohamed Fadel model. You can see
pictures of my instruments under the following address
http://www.lutes-strings.de/english/Aoud.php
Furthermore I have some used instruments for sale:
-- a professional iraqi model
-- a about 20 years old Faruk Türünz oud.
The Oud from the Oman is sold meanwhile.
So you have a great variety to look at.
best regards
Matthias
