new UDs
HI,
While I was on vaccation in Morocco this summer , I spent most of time with my Friends Khalid Belhaiba and Majid Atik.
I have the honor to show you 2 master pieces they have made for me.
The first one is made from Rosewood bowl, bizon Horn/ebony fingerboard. shamsa and pickguard also from Horn...
The second one is Sapelli bowl and Eben fingerboard.
both have first degree Epecia sound boards and Epecia Braces.
It's a life joy to have them. Pyramid strings are used (Fa).

Whoa, amazingly clean and beautiful instruments! Especially the first one. Are the neck markers perfectly accurate if checked against an electronic
tuner set on well-tempered?
Can you please explain. When you say "Fa'", do you mean it's tuned FA LALA RERE SolSol DoDo FaFa?

fernandraynaud : thanks for the comments
I mean the first pyramid string (trebble) is Fa (F).
F,C,G,D,A,F is the order.
Yes the neck markers (ebony) are like you said. like guitar
I'm not an expert in the matter. I have to ask khalid about this.

Why would you check against well temperament in particular? It seems a rather obscure choice. I think just intonation (standard 5 limit) would
probably be the most logical choice. If you wanted a temperament, might as well do equal-tempered, no?

I likes Majids oud! Lovely base!!And I love its simple beauty. Is it turkish size?
Alf mabrouk, again..
p.s. take good care of your ouds. I just dropped my favorit on the floor, and both my heart and oud cracked!

Sorry, oops, mistake, I meant Equal Tempered, which is indeed the logical choice as a starting place, and what you'd most ordinarily find on a tuner,
there isn't even any such thing as THE "Well Temperament", there are many.
Did you see some of the schemes they have come up with on guitar, where the frets are not straight lines, they stagger to provide Pythagorean (I
think) intervals?
