Hi all!
Anybody happens to know what kind of strings is Issam Rafea using on his oud?
Thanks

Hi lutgutt
It may be lute strings from Pyramid, however other factors are involved too making you hearing good oud sound. In that concert (I was there
fortunately) Issaam is using a guitar pick and not a regular risha which makes the sound generated louder and stronger. Second, the tuning
D-AA-dd-gg-cc-ff on bayati D taksiim is suitable (the D string is higher that usual in gauge). I used to get similar sound on a cheap oud with
Daddario strings using the guitar pick and similar tuning.
Issam used to play with a pick for the tar (influenced by a tar master that came to damas one day) then he used a dunlop guitar pick but recently I
heard that he is back to the regular oud risha.
