Arabic oud in the $1000 range wanted
Hi everyone,
I am looking for a concert-worthy Arabic oud and I have about $1000 (give or take) to spend. Anyone need to unload an instrument?

Selling beautiful H. Nahat 1938 for a friend, in good-to-quite-good condition. Sacrificing remnant from Estate Sale. Minor touch-up to the bowl will
bring this stunning 5 course oud into concert league. $1200 plus fumigation fee plus shipping from Swirzerland plus insurance. Sorry mobile phone
photo is a bit unclear. Sound file on request.

Hi Amos- where are you located? An oud made by M Shehata comes to mind, you should be able to find one in that price range, and they are very good
value for money as well as good sound. Used ones appear from time to time in the forum, but if you can wait then he could make one up for you to your
specs. Contact Mike if you want to go that route. Oud.Proff usually has a few nice ones hanging about, and Fadi Matta makes lovely ones, contact
Katakofka for one of his -however it's those shipping costs from Arabic countries that add the extras on top of a price, unless you are very near to
one. good luck! MW

You may also look into getting a Sukar oud. You could get one of the higher end models for about $900 give or take. I have a model 213 and absolutely
love it.

Quote from the ad for this oud on arabinstruments.com -
"The oud is coming without the oud inner certificate due to the customs problems."
Does anyone know what these problems might be?...I don't really care one way or another, I'm just curious...
I have never heard of any legitimate oud having to come without a label, and I have bought a number of ouds that have come through various customs
departments around the world, with the original labels all present and correct.

Sazi I was wondering the same thing...Thanks for the responses guys, I am hoping to buy and oud from another oud player who can speak to the oud's
quality and sound, rather than sight unseen from a company...Anyone?

Since Amos is located in USA , it would be better if someone "close" to him makes him a good offer . Shipping from ME e.g. would cost a fortune !
Good luck Amos

Shehata for sale
Amos,
I never play my Shehata anymore and if you want to try to get down to Boston to check it out, you're welcome to. Will be sub-$1000. Some pictures of
the oud are here:

Since I'm not the only happy Sukar owner here, and since the drama in that other thread is settling, I don't think I'm crazy to suggest saving a
little money and making an offer on something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-OILY-WALNUT-WOOD-SUKAR-OUD-FREE-HARD-CASE-M...
You can see that the bracing and design of the Sukars makes for a specific timbre, with a strong bass and a many peaks in the midrange. If you
smooth/polish/coat the fingerboard, you can get an absolutely incredible sustain. It's maybe a hair brighter than a typical old Arabic, but it's deep
and rich, not brittle. Everybody should have at least one Sukar

Amos,
That Shehata looks nice. If I had some $ to spend I would have jumped on that already.

I guess arab instrument.com are located in israel so shipping from syria (where sukkar is) to israel is not feasible. If this is true that they are
located in israel and they are selling sukkar ouds it would be a problem for ibrahiim. He could be in trouble for that. Reason why no labeling on the
oud.

Amos, Harry's Shehata looks really nice if you don't buy the Fadi Mata. Harry, what are you playing these days if not the Shehata. Boy that's a
sweet looking oud!

Dear Friends
Since we import the ouds from Syria direct to Isreal ,and it is not allowed due to the customes rules in Israel to import from Syria, and we have
asked from Ibrahim Sukar factory to remove these labels.
All our ouds are original with beautiful sound.
You can listen to the sound in the website

A little off topic but this is what I'm currently playing
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=7061#pid436...
Very fond of it. Slightly smaller than either my Shehata or my Sukars, very thin neck, excellent workmanship.

Beautiful, Wahid is a great craftsman and his ouds sound amazing, and would probably last quite a few lifetimes. Powerful too considering the small
size of the body.
No wonder you are fond of it!

Amos!
For what it is worth, I recommend either Sukar ouds (14 or 205) or Shehata. They are all good ouds!
Good luck

I wonder why nobody mentioned Michael Moussa in the UK so far? I often read about his great craftsmanship here in the forums.
And what about Khalid Belhaiba in Morocco? Just have a look at THIS masterpiece!
PS: Ok, I forgot, Amos is located in the US, so shipping costs might be horrible.
Greetings from Germany
Chris
