The pattern is very beautiful. I used santos rosewood for fingerboard and pickguard with rosewood pegs on one of my ouds. Will enjoy seeing your
progress.

Phillip, yes it is a 58,5 cm . the srtings are from pyramid I have sent you an u2u.
this is hoe far I'm with ud:
the neck is in place(cherry wood), feels very gentle and smooth when playing,
the fingerbaord is also from Santos rosewood, as the pegbox.
the playing strings will be also 58,5 cm.
it looks already nice

I would expect this oud to have a very deep warm bass, because of the combination of soundhole concept and the rosewood boul.
Even MY rosewood oud has developed a very deep bass in the meatime, though the soundhole concept is different. Rosewood is great
BTW ... this single soundhole concept isn't that unusual, I saw it several times, be it oval or round.

The ud is finished, but still need little more polishing.
I have mounted the strings yesterday and will leave like this fo a while before starting to play.
the strings have the appropriate height from fingerboard to perform low play action. no buzz at all.
Santos fingerboard, pegbox and pickguard, walnut bridge, ebony pegs.

Very nice. The last photo is funny ... it looks as if the oud has 22 pegs of two different colors
Like on the two you built before. Regarding sound I would expect a mix of the sounds of the last two ouds ... really arabic with a deep warm bass.

Ok, when will you build the first 11 courses oud on the whole world?
BTW ... it seems the soundboard is not varnished and the fingerboard not oiled?
I did a bit of research about fingerboard cleaning and care. On my guitar I always used good quality furniture polish for the ebony, but I found
hints, that Ballistol oil would be even better, which is a neutral oil normally used for guns. But because of it's neutrality it's even used for
medical purposes on skin. It's said, that this Ballistol helps to avoid the wood drying out over time and it gives a pleasing shiny look.
What do you think is better for fingerboard care?

I use myself an old italien varnish receipt. used also fo violin,
I have decided not to varnish the sound board this time, I use the italien varnish and a bit of wax. the sound board is very light varnished to reach
maximum vibration at the beginning.

A good idea I think, because that avoids spots on the soundboard, that might develop over time by contact with the skin.

sound file
Hi all,
I couldn't resist making a sound file even if the ud is new and strings still have the metalic sound around them (2 days old). Dáddario strings are
used. this way I can compare the sound later on .
Recorded with my mobile phone and I'm not a good player.

Good morning,
ok, recordings with cheap microphones are not significant and MP3 always cuts out parts of the overtones, but I think we can hear, that it already has
a very arabic sound with a good bass, that will develop even more over time ... rosewood rocks ... and I expect it to develop a good sustain too.
And the D'Addario will soon develop a smoother sound, as I heard on my oud. But who cares ... string choice is a matter of personal preference.
