this is the greatest detailed taqseem explaination on the net.
three masters Khalid Mohammed Ali (Iraq ), Sherbel Rohana (Lebanon) and Ahmed Alkhatib (Palastine) explain how to start a taqseem, how apply "ajnas"
and add colors and how to end a taqseem.
great videos.
click on the maqam's name on the right for different lessons (for non arabic speaker the maqams from top to bottom: rast, nakriz, bayat, nahawand,
ajam, kurd, hijaz, seqah, saba)
the website is looking for volunteers to translate their content to english (click on "english" at top left of screen for details )
i apologize if this has been posted before on the forums, i didn't search.
for those who missed it, this is a great stuff. Eric Stern Music - 12-29-2014 at 12:05 AM
I believe this has been posted before but it's good to be reminded of these videos. Even if you don't speak a word of arabic they are very informative
and you can often get the gist of what is being communicated. Lysander - 12-29-2014 at 04:14 AM
Yes, this has been posted before. I personally found the fact that it is in Arabic of limited value to me, since I can't understand what they are
saying it comes across as "for this maqam, you can play this, or this, or this". I really need to have an understanding of the psychological processes
underlying each improvisation, which unfortunately I can't pick up.
I'm sure there are plenty of people at my university who would be willing to pick up the translation work, dependant on how much the site is willing
to pay, but to "volunteer" - of which the implication is to do it for free - is crazy for the amount of work it would entail. Masel - 12-29-2014 at 02:18 PM
wow great video! they refer to the notes by their arabic/turkish names (not western, most of the time) so try to pick them up, for example "rast ala
yegah" is jins rast on yegah note (low G). danieletarab - 1-1-2015 at 10:04 AM
we want it in english! Mrcook - 5-5-2015 at 01:17 AM
can anyone post a link to these videos? Moe5021 - 5-5-2015 at 02:25 AM
I'll try to contact them regarding translating it into English. I speak both languages. Don't know if I'd be able to translate everything, though. I
have a life outside of the Oud world, haha.Lysander - 5-5-2015 at 09:22 AM
Moe, translating this into English would be a LOT of work! I hope they will pay you for it!
I already sent them an email yesterday. Still no reply.
I was planning on translating part of it, not the whole thing. And from what I understand there's no pay but it would still be worth it.Agahnim - 5-14-2015 at 05:02 AM
They have a Link in the top of the main page, where they seek help to translate the site into English!
